A Note From Our Executive Director

Dear VSA Iowa Artists and Volunteers:

Thank you so much for choosing to dedicate your time and talents to our organization during the Iowa State Fair this year. VSA Iowa’s festival at the fair is the largest of all its 60 affiliates, and we could not pull it together without you!

As many of you are aware, VSA was subjected to hefty, federal budget cuts this past year. We were unsure whether our presence at the fair would even be possible.

However, due to the generosity of administrators at the Iowa State Fair, we are able to celebrate year 34 of showcasing original works of art and performances to more than 250,000 fairgoers.

At this time, we are in a similar position as it relates to our fate at next year’s fair. The recent loss of substantial funding called for a restructure of the organization—with a driving focus on creative and performing arts programs for children and young adults with disabilities.

We will continue to keep you in the loop as we explore avenues for pulling together next year’s fair. We hope to have a final determination within the next few months.

Thank you for your patience during this process. We sincerely appreciate it and everything you do for our organization.

Sincerely,

Sandra Jaques, VSA Iowa Executive Director
